The Tribe Guidelines

SkillTribe — Tribe Guidelines

Last updated: 31/05/2026

The Tribe is a private community of ambitious AEs, AMs and sales leaders working at the most prestigious and fast-growing tech companies. We connect around the shared goal of advancing tech sales careers — through referrals, networking, insider insight, and ongoing support.

These Guidelines apply to all Members of The Tribe, whether on the Tribe Lite (free) or Tribe Pro (paid) tier. They sit alongside our [Tribe Terms of Service], [SkillTribe Terms of Service] and [Privacy Policy], which govern your overall relationship with SkillTribe.

By joining The Tribe, you agree to follow these Guidelines. Continued membership constitutes ongoing acceptance.

1. What The Tribe Is

A private, invite-only community on Slack for SkillTribe Members. A space to:

  • Share job opportunities and request referrals

  • Network professionally with other senior tech sellers

  • Learn from guest speakers and senior operators

  • Give and receive support across career transitions

The Tribe is built on mutual respect, generosity, and professionalism. Members are expected to both give and receive in ways that create genuine value for others. Access to specific features depends on your membership tier — see Section 2 for details.

2. Membership Tiers

The Tribe operates on two tiers:

  • Tribe Lite (free) — limited access, including community channels, monthly live workshops, the public jobs feed, and a preview of the Offer Accelerator

  • Tribe Pro (paid) — full access to the Offer Accelerator on-demand materials, Q&A time with guest speakers, referral access, the Pro Q&A channel, and any Pro specific jobs shared. (See https://www.skilltribe.io/the-tribe for the most up-to-date features)

  • Certain channels and benefits are restricted to Tribe Pro Members. These Guidelines apply to both tiers; specific commercial terms (pricing, billing, cancellation) for Tribe Pro Members are covered in the [Tribe Terms of Service]. Tribe Pro members are also eligible to participate in the Tribe Ambassador Programme. Full details are set out in the Tribe Terms of Service.

3. Behaviour & Participation

Please:

  • Be respectful and professional at all times

  • Approach the community with a mutual value / win-win mindset

  • Keep posts relevant to the appropriate channel

  • Read each channel description before posting

  • Use clear, specific messages

  • Follow Slack etiquette — no spamming or excessive tagging

No selling or pitching:

Pitching, selling, or promoting paid services (including coaching, recruiting, software, or side businesses) is not permitted unless explicitly invited by the other party or parties in writing.

Genuine recommendations are welcome where they are shared to be helpful, not promotional.

If you work for a company, receive financial benefit, or have any commercial interest in a product or service, you may reference it only when:

  • It is directly relevant to an existing discussion or question

  • You would genuinely recommend it even without the financial incentive

  • Your affiliation or incentive is clearly disclosed upfront

  • The mention is informational, not promotional

  • You do not initiate threads to promote it or repeatedly reference the same product

  • You do not follow up via DM unless explicitly invited

SkillTribe reserves the right to remove any content that feels promotional, repetitive, or misaligned with the spirit of the community.

Information shared within The Tribe is not legal, financial, or professional advice and should not be relied upon as such.

4. Display Names & Privacy

Using your first and last name is recommended to help others connect with you professionally.

If you prefer additional privacy, you may use:

  • First name only (e.g. James)

  • First name + last initial (e.g. Sarah G)

  • A neutral variation if required

You may also add [DMs open] or [DMs closed] to signal your messaging preferences.

Never impersonate another individual, company, or role through your display name.

While The Tribe is private and invite-only, your name and messages are visible to other Members within the community.

5. DMs & 1:1 Messaging

Channels exist to create shared value and visibility.

  • Cold or unsolicited DMs are discouraged

  • Ask questions or make requests in a thread first where possible

  • Only move to DMs when invited or clearly welcomed

  • If someone explicitly invites a DM (e.g. "Feel free to message me"), that invitation applies to that interaction only — not as standing permission

Repeated misuse of DMs, unwanted outreach, or attempts to sell or pitch services may result in permanent removal from The Tribe.

Report unwanted or inappropriate behaviour privately to Ash via Slack or ash@skilltribe.io.

6. Referral Requests & Role Visibility

Referral requests should be made via the #request-referral channel only. Members are asked to limit requests to once per week. SkillTribe may update this limit from time to time via the channel description.

Please note:

  • Most Members are not currently job-seeking

  • No Member is ever obligated to provide a referral, introduction, feedback, or response

  • Some managers and leaders may be present in The Tribe. Most channels are designed for individual contributors and leaders separately (channels with "-ic" in the name are for individual contributors)

  • Members may occasionally share Slack space with colleagues from their own company. You are never required to disclose your employer

  • You may join or leave channels at any time and take responsibility for your own participation

Do not discuss another Member's presence in The Tribe outside Slack without their explicit permission.

Do not follow up referral requests via direct message unless explicitly invited to do so.

SkillTribe does not guarantee interviews, referrals, offers, or job outcomes as a result of community participation.

Where SkillTribe or Ash facilitates an introduction between a Member and any third party — including recruiters, sales leaders, or alumni — this is done in good faith and as a courtesy only. SkillTribe accepts no responsibility for the outcome of any such introduction, including hiring decisions, offers, or professional relationships that may result.

SkillTribe is not responsible for any communications, agreements, hiring decisions, or outcomes resulting from interactions between Members. All referrals, introductions, and hiring processes are conducted independently and at Members' own discretion and risk.

7. Data, Privacy & Confidentiality

By joining The Tribe, you acknowledge:

  • Your name and activity may be visible to other Members

  • Your participation is optional — you can leave at any time

  • You may be tagged by others based on interests, roles or companies

Do not screenshot, copy, or share messages from The Tribe outside the community without the explicit consent of all involved parties.

SkillTribe will never sell your personal data to third parties for commercial purposes. For full details on data processing, please see our [Privacy Policy].

To request full removal of your account, leave the Slack workspace directly or email ash@skilltribe.io.

Onboarding and access records may be retained for up to 12 months after departure for legal, operational, and audit purposes. After this period, data will be deleted on request unless retention is required by law.

8. Guest Speaker Sessions & Confidentiality

Tribe Pro Members have access to join our special guest speaker sessions and access to time at the end dedicated to questions from our Tribe Pro members.

These sessions operate under Chatham House Rule: you may use the information shared, but you may not identify the speaker or attribute specific statements outside the session.

Recording, screenshotting, or sharing these sessions without prior written consent from SkillTribe and the speaker is strictly prohibited and may result in immediate removal.

9. Notifications & Personal Settings

To manage notification volume, we recommend:

  • Enabling notifications only for mentions

  • Following key channels relevant to your focus

  • Setting up keyword-specific notifications (e.g. company names, tools)

Keyword notifications are particularly helpful for getting alerted when someone is looking for a referral into your company.

10. Removal Policy

Community access is a privilege, not a right, and is granted at SkillTribe's discretion.

SkillTribe reserves the right to remove any Member who:

  • Breaches these Guidelines or the Tribe Terms of Servicee

  • Makes the space unsafe, uncomfortable, or unproductive for other Members

  • Engages in behaviour that damages the trust and quality of The Tribe

Removal may happen without advance notice or explanation.

For Tribe Pro Members, refund treatment in the event of removal is covered in the [Tribe Terms of Service].

11. Evolving Guidelines

The Tribe is a living community. These Guidelines may evolve over time as the community grows.

The most up-to-date version will always be available at: https://www.skilltribe.io/tribe-community-guidelines

Continued participation constitutes acceptance of any updated Guidelines. Material changes affecting Tribe Pro Members will be notified via email under the [Tribe Terms of Service].

All changes are made to protect the safety, clarity, and long-term value of the community.
