SkillTribe Community "The Tribe" Slack Group — Terms & Guidelines
Last updated: 18/01/2026
The Tribe is a private, invite-only Slack community for current and pre-approved SkillTribe clients and alumni.
It is a space for top performers across the most prestigious and fast-growing tech companies to connect around the shared goal of advancing their tech sales careers — whether that’s landing the right next role, giving referrals, sharing insight, or building strategic connections ahead of future transitions.
It is a community built on mutual respect, generosity, and professionalism. Members are expected to both give and receive in ways that create genuine win-win outcomes.
Whether you are:
-
Actively exploring your next role and looking for support, referrals, or job visibility
-
Already in a great role and happy to give back, refer strong talent, or stay connected
…the Tribe is designed to support top performers at every stage of their career.
To protect everyone’s time, energy, and privacy — and to maintain a high-trust, high-quality environment — the following guidelines apply.
By joining this Slack community, you agree to abide by them.
For the purposes of data protection law, SkillTribe acts as the data controller for personal information collected during onboarding and participation in this community. We process member data on the basis of legitimate interest and contractual necessity to operate, secure, and manage the community.
1. What The Tribe Slack Community is
-
A private, invite-only Slack space for invited SkillTribe clients and pre-approved alumni
-
A place to share job postings, request referrals, and network professionally
-
A respectful, professional, and psychologically safe and empowering environment
Access is currently free and will remain so for the foreseeable future.
If the community ever becomes paid, you will receive at least 30 days’ written notice, with the option to opt out. There will be no surprise charges.
2. Behaviour & Participation Guidelines
Please:
-
Be respectful and professional at all times
-
Approach the community with a mutual value / win-win mindset
-
Keep posts relevant to the appropriate channel
-
Read each channel description before posting
-
Use clear, specific messages
-
Follow Slack etiquette (no spamming or excessive tagging)
-
Do not send unsolicited DMs
No selling or pitching
Pitching, selling, or promoting paid services (including coaching, recruiting, software, or side businesses) is not permitted unless explicitly invited by the other party/parties in writing.
Genuine recommendations are welcome where they are shared to be helpful, not promotional.
If you work for a company, receive financial benefit, or have any commercial interest in a product or service, you may reference it only when:
-
It is directly relevant to an existing discussion or question
-
You would genuinely recommend it even without any financial incentive
-
Your affiliation or incentive is clearly disclosed upfront
-
The mention is informational, not promotional
-
You do not initiate threads to promote it or repeatedly reference the same product
-
You do not follow up via DMs unless explicitly invited
SkillTribe reserves the right to limit or remove any content that feels promotional, repetitive, or misaligned with the spirit of the community.
Any unwanted or inappropriate behaviour should be reported privately to Ash via Slack or hello@skilltribe.io. SkillTribe reserves the right to permanently remove any person who breaches the above policy more than once or is ever inappropriate.
Information shared within the community does not constitute legal, financial, or professional advice and should not be relied upon as such.
3. Slack Display Name & Privacy Settings
Using your first and last name is recommended to help others connect with you professionally.
If you prefer additional privacy, you may use:
-
First name only (e.g. James)
-
First name + last initial (e.g. Sarah G)
-
A neutral variation if required
-
You may also add [DMs open] or [DMs closed] in your display name to signal your messaging preferences.
Never impersonate another individual, company, or role through your display name.
⚠️ While this Slack is private and invite-only, your name and messages are visible to other members within the community.
4. DMs & 1:1 Messaging
Channels exist to create shared value and visibility.
-
Cold or unsolicited DMs are discouraged
-
When possible, ask questions or make requests in a thread first
-
Only move to DMs when invited or clearly welcomed
If someone explicitly invites a DM (e.g. “Feel free to message me”), that invitation applies to that interaction only.
Repeated misuse of DMs, unwanted outreach, or attempts to sell or pitch services may result in permanent removal from the community.
Any unwanted or inappropriate behaviour should be reported privately to Ash via Slack or hello@skilltribe.io.
5. Referral Requests & Role Visibility
Please note:
-
Most community members are not currently job-seeking
-
No member is ever obligated to provide a referral, introduction, feedback, or response
Some managers and leaders may be present in the Slack. However, most channels are specifically designed for individual contributors and leaders separately.
Individual contributor-only channels typically include "-ic" in the channel name. While care is taken to manage consistency, 100% accuracy cannot be guaranteed at all times.
Members may occasionally share Slack space with colleagues from their own company. You are never required to disclose your employer and may use a privacy-friendly display name if preferred.
Participation is optional:
-
You may join or leave channels at any time
-
You take responsibility for your own participation and actions
Do not discuss another member’s presence in this community outside the Slack without their explicit permission.
SkillTribe does not guarantee interviews, referrals, offers, or job outcomes as a result of community participation.
SkillTribe is not responsible for any communications, agreements, hiring decisions, or outcomes resulting from interactions between members. All referrals, introductions, and hiring processes are conducted independently and at members’ own discretion and risk.
6. Data, Privacy & GDPR
By joining, you acknowledge:
-
Your name and activity may be visible to other members
-
Your participation is optional — you can leave at any time
-
You may be tagged by others based on interests, roles or companies
SkillTribe will never share or sell your data with third-party companies. Do not screenshot, copy, or share messages from this Slack outside the community without the explicit consent of all involved parties.
To request full removal, you may leave the Slack directly yourself or email hello@skilltribe.io
If you leave the community, onboarding and access records may be retained for up to 12 months for legal, operational, and audit purposes. After this period, data will be deleted upon request unless retention is required by law. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by contacting hello@skilltribe.io.
7. Notifications & Personal Settings
You can customise Slack notifications via your preferences.
To minimise noise, consider:
-
Enabling notifications only for mentions
-
Following key channels that you’re focused on
-
We also recommend setting up keyword-specific notifications (e.g. company names or tools relevant to you) to be notified when someone mentions that keyword. This is especially helpful if you want to be alerted that someone is looking for a referral into your company
8. Cost & Access Policy
-
Slack access is free for current coaching clients and alumni.
-
If this ever becomes a paid community, you’ll get at least 30 days’ notice via email and/or Slack.
-
Joining this Slack does not commit you to future payments
-
SkillTribe may modify, suspend or discontinue the community or any part of it at any time. Where reasonably possible, members will be given notice but access is not guaranteed for any fixed period.
9. Removal Policy
Community access is a privilege, not a right, and is granted at SkillTribe’s discretion. SkillTribe reserves the right to remove any member if they:
-
Violate these guidelines
-
Make the space unsafe, uncomfortable, or unproductive
Removal may happen without advance notice or explanation.
10. Evolving Guidelines
This is a living community — guidelines may evolve over time.
-
The most up-to-date version will always be available at:
https://www.skilltribe.io/tribe-community-terms -
Continued participation constitutes acceptance of any updated guidelines.
-
All changes are made to protect the safety, clarity, and long-term value of the community.
